Biography

Melbourne-based singer/songwriter Chloe Hall is well known to lovers of Australian contemporary folk music. An accomplished songwriter with a beautiful voice, Chloe is a mature and assured artist, exuding real honesty and strength through her music.

Since 2005, Chloe has been performing with charismatic cellist James Hazelden. Together, they have toured extensively and have been embraced by Australia's folk music community. The warmth and humour they bring to each concert has earned Chloe and James a reputation for uplifting performances that stay with the audience long after the show is over.

Chloe and James are looking forward to launching Chloe's third album, White Street, in Canada later this year (August to October).

Background

Chloe has been playing music all her life. An early love of Irish folk music led her on a fruitful journey as a teenage troubadour, from open mic nights in Melbourne to countless stages on the Australian folk circuit through the mid to late 90's. After studying voice and composition at the Conservatorium at Melbourne University, she left to carve out a career as a contemporary singer/songwriter.

Chloe has built a reputation for her stunning voice, beautifully crafted songs and warm, heartfelt performances. She has performed extensively, from pubs and folk clubs to major festivals and events - most recently touring Australia with James Hazelden.

Songwriting

As a songwriter, Chloe has sharpened her skills writing for various film and television projects including contributions to 5 albums (3 gold sellers) from the ABC's hit show The Saddle Club, a spin-off album from the Nine Network's Holly's Heroes and several Foxtel documentaries. White Street demonstrates Chloe's songwriting at its best - and has already had "Fallen Angel Boy" placed on the album from the telemovie Little Oberon, and two songs featured in the acclaimed Australian film The Caterpillar Wish, starring Susie Porter and Wendy Hughes.

Recording

In 2000, Chloe was nominated for Best Unsigned Artist at The Music Critics Awards in Adelaide after the release of her impressive debut mini-album, White Sky. 2002 saw the release of a more pop-flavoured self-titled EP to Europe and the US. White Street is a return to roots - warm, woodgrain, acoustic - and has allowed Chloe to build on her previous success while also discovering a whole new audience.

White Street

Released nationally in Australia in 2006, White Street has received widespread acclaim from Australia's folk community. It is the work of a mature and assured artist with an instinct for melody and subtle truths - a woman who knows her own voice and is palpably comfortable in her own skin.

Produced by Greg Arnold (Things of Stone and Wood), White Street features Chloe Hall performing vocals, piano and guitar, Anita Quayle (The Morning Birds) on cello, Louise McCarthy (Lucid) playing violin, viola and singing backing vocals, Greg Arnold on guitar, bass and Hammond and James Richmond (Naked Raven) on percussion.
